Who Doesn’t Like Sac’s?

Sac’s Place – 2541 Broadway, Astoria, New York

On the heels of my review of Boston Pizza, I’m going to write about another Astoria pizza place – one that will show you what New York City pizza is made of – Sac’s Place.
Sac's Place

Mama’s Old Fashioned Pie

Sac’s is an Italian restaurant serving everything from manicotti to fettuccine alfredo to eggplant parmigiana. However, I come here for the pizza. Give it a try and you’ll see why.

I recommend getting:
  • Mama’s Old Fashioned Pie: hand cut fresh mozzarella, virgin olive oil, basil, crushed San Marzano tomatoes

Sac’s cooks it’s pizza in a coal oven. One bite and you can taste the signature flavor that any coal oven pizza gives off. It’s a thin crust pizza that has a good distribution of mozzarella cheese and sauce across the entire slice, and not too much of either ingredient, allowing you to really taste both with each bite. My one negative comment is the crust is too soft and floppy. I like a pizza crust with a nice crunch to it – similar to what you get at Bleecker Street Pizza. At Sac’s Place, their crust doesn’t have any crunch and for me, this leaves something to be desired.

The Verdict
Sac’s Place is a solid go-to pizza place in Astoria. Its pizza is consistently great and the thin crust embodies the style of New York pizza. I highly recommend this place for anyone in search of a good slice in the neighborhood and based on how they blow pizza out of the water, I want to give some of their broader menu options a try. I definitely will be back – many times.
