Sac’s Place – 2541 Broadway, Astoria, New York
Sac’s is an Italian restaurant serving everything from manicotti to fettuccine alfredo to eggplant parmigiana. However, I come here for the pizza. Give it a try and you’ll see why.
- Mama’s Old Fashioned Pie: hand cut fresh mozzarella, virgin olive oil, basil, crushed San Marzano tomatoes
Sac’s cooks it’s pizza in a coal oven. One bite and you can taste the signature flavor that any coal oven pizza gives off. It’s a thin crust pizza that has a good distribution of mozzarella cheese and sauce across the entire slice, and not too much of either ingredient, allowing you to really taste both with each bite. My one negative comment is the crust is too soft and floppy. I like a pizza crust with a nice crunch to it – similar to what you get at Bleecker Street Pizza. At Sac’s Place, their crust doesn’t have any crunch and for me, this leaves something to be desired.
